Running Wild – Dayton Hyde – A Lesson For All Of Us

Running Wild – A Movie Worth Seeing

Alone I sat in the movie theater. Not alone as I was not with a family member or friend, alone as I was the only one in the theater. I was there to watch the Movie “Running Wild” – a story about a real life hero, Dayton Hyde. A writer of over a dozen books, a rancher, a war hero, and at the age of retirement started a sanctuary for wild mustangs in South Dakota.

Dayton Hyde’s life is one worthy of a movie and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the man and have begun to order his books. “Running Wild” is a movie worth seeing, especially for today’s young men needing some encouragement to do something with their lives. But as inspired as I was by “Running Wild” and the Dayton Hyde story, something else struck a chord with me that evening; the fact that while I sat alone in an empty theater watching a movie about a real hero, the theaters next to me were filled with make believe heroes.

Today’s Americans spend countless dollars and energy watching violence filled movies, television shows not known for their moral values, and spend whole weekends at home watching others on TV play sports. We can recite our favorite sports players’ stats and team records while not able to name our representatives in Congress. How many of us really understand why the government shut down? How many of us fully understand what is Obamacare?   We escape to the movie screen, TV screen and computer screen, never seeing, hearing or experiencing the real things in life.

We escape to the movie screen, TV screen and computer screen, never seeing, hearing or experiencing the real things in life.

So while men like Dayton Hyde follow their visions and fight for what they believe is right, most of us don’t even have intelligent and informed opinions on the greatest factors affecting our lives. Maybe, just maybe, if more of us watched a few more movies about men and women like Dayton Hyde, we would go out and change, for the better, our world around us. What we need in this world today is a few more Dayton Hydes and a few less secret agents Machete Cortez and movies like Machete Kills.

The road to the furture

What does the future hold for you?

But if we don’t even know who Dayton Hyde is or what he has done, how can we strive to do more with our lives than just watch mind numbing entertainment?

Find what you love and pursue yourself.  Get informed about what surrounds you.  Change what you don’t like.  Complaining does not accomplish much, doing something positive accomplishes many smiles.
