Spending Time with my Local Whitetail
Learning From The Past
I guess with age we change. The lingering summer heat has simmered my desire to sit in a treestand. Maryland archery deer season began September 5th and as of the 17th, I have yet to carry my bow into the woods. However, that will all change next week; as I have set aside the last 10 days of September for some whitetail deer and Canada Goose hunting.
Living In The Today
But until then, I have this little place I have found conveniently between the office and apartment where I can stalk and photograph whitetail deer, turkeys and watch the ducks and geese.
I guess this plays in part with the mantra of making the best of your current situation. There are days, I miss the rolling farm fields and quiet life of my home in Carroll County, MD, but also realize that to meet my current obligations, I need to spend my week days in Alexandria, Va. The after work summer fishing excursions, and fall walks with camera in hand keep the woodsman soul in me lit.
Planning For Tomorrow
I believe it is important to have a plan. As I have just signed on for four more years here in Washington, DC, I am making plans that following those four years, I will be able to make some important changes and return permanently to Carroll County, Maryland. Well, not without, hopefully, some grand adventures to exciting places across the US.
But as important as having a plan for the future, I believe it is also as important to live in today, and experience all you can on a daily basis. For the best laid plans can change; as for what tomorrow holds, only God knows. So, I make the best of it and walk the woods with camera in hand and stalk the local bucks. Somewhere I once heard, ” Learn from your past, live in today and plan for tomorrow.”
