A Weekend at Blackwater Falls State Park

Blackwater Falls State Park – West Virginia

Sometimes life throws you a couple of curve balls in a row before that longed for fast ball races in high and outside.  You envision the ball reaching over the fence as your grip tightens.  The ball strikes the catcher’s mitt with that leather on leather thud.  The umpire pronounces strike 3 and you walk back to the dugout.

Yep, that is how this blog entry has gone.  Two weeks ago, I went camping at Blackwater Falls State Park in West Virginia.  The weather was perfect.  The hike to the falls was gorgeous.  I found a nice trail perfect for a little off-roading exploration and a nice shady picnic area along the most perfect bubbling brook.  In general it was the perfect camping weekend.

However computer problems slowed the posting progress of the trip blog entry.  Finally I got my computer back and I go to finish the blog post and I cannot find the rough draft of the post.  Worse yet, I just know it was the perfect well written, funny, thought provoking post that was sure to invoke the readers to put their electronic gadgets down and go camping.  It was an award winner for sure, lost into electronic space never to be found again.

I’ve got a fishing trip planned tomorrow, a kayak trip the day after, and another camping trip for this weekend.  My mind is on the next adventure and for the life of me; I cannot remember the hook to the blog post about Blackwater Falls State Park.

I did get to take some nice photographs while on the trip.  I’ll post some more in a few days, but I wanted to get this post up.

Blackwater Falls State Park in West Virginia lies among the wooded Allegheny Mountains. The name sake of the park is Blackwater Falls, a 62-foot cascade where the Blackwater River leaves Canaan Valley and enters rugged Blackwater Canyon. The River is named for its tannic acid-darkened water.  The falls are one of the most photographed locations along the Allegheny Mountains and regularly appear on calendars, jigsaw puzzles, advertisements and inspirational posters.

If you and the kids are stuck in the house attempting to escape the hot sticky summer heat of late summer, but you would really like to get them out of the house, maybe a trip to the cool mountains of West Virginia is the answer.   I’m heading back to the region again this weekend to explore the Seneca Rocks area.  Hopefully I’ll have an award winning blog post from that trip.

Get out and have some fun nature style.
