The good old stand-by is still the best at keeping you dry.
I first started to use Helly Hansen rain gear when I worked in Alaska. In the daily rain of Ketchikan Alaska, I guided tourist through the Alaskan Wilderness in open wheeled buggies. The rain suit preferred by the locals and the one we gave to each tourist to use while off-roading in the rain was the Helly Hansen rain jacket and bibs.
This past weekend while at the Overland Expo East in Asheville North Carolina, we experienced record setting rain fall. On Friday, I set up camp, walked around vendor row, discussed the roads traveled and roads yet to travel with old and new friends, all the while rain fell. I stayed perfectly dry wearing my Helly Hansen rain suit.
Standing in camp a friend joked about my watermen outfit. I just smiled and said, “yep, and I’m dry.” Simply there is a reason the Alaskan tuxedo is a Helly Hansen Rain Jacket and bibs. They work at keeping you dry.
Rain Gear That Works
I realize the old fashion PVC type of rain gear my not be the most popular with the cool kids with their high dollar fashionable high tech rain gear, but I know that as long as I’m wearing my Helly Hansen rain suit, I will stay dry day after day of working or playing in the rain. I even wear it when hunting. Several years ago, I purchased a camo rain jacket and bibs for a Canada deer hunt. It works at keeping me dry for a while but eventually the water will work through the layers.
If you want a rain gear that works no matter how long you stand in the rain and don’t want to spend a bunch of money to stay dry, I would strongly suggest a pair of Helly Hansen bibs and jacket.
Disclosure – I purchased my Helly Hansen at full price and received no compensation for this review. Heck, I’ve never even spoke to anyone at Helly Hansen over the years. I’ve never had to, when the rain comes, I put on my rain jacket and bibs and keep dry. The suit has never failed me and I’ve never had a reason to contact them.
