I Am a Gun Owner

I Am a Gun Owner

I’m a peace loving kind of guy. But there is a gun close by my bed. I always assume the best in a person. But the ammo lies next to the gun. I am a gun owner.

Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Guns have always been a part of my life, but not my life. I was raised to see a gun equal to that of a hammer. Used correctly the tool will do the job asked when in my hands. If used improperly, will cause harm.

When in the army I slept with my weapon. When in deer camp my rifle stays in the truck until it is time to hunt.

I have never understood the fear invoked from the mere sight of a gun. I fear the unsavory man over the inanimate wood and steel.

“And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the Press, or the rights of Conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms; …”
Samuel Adams – quoted in the Philadelphia Independent Gazetteer, August 20, 1789, “Propositions submitted to the Convention of this State”

I hope and pray that I will never have to point a gun at a person. But I am willing in order to protect myself, family and country.

Owning a gun does not make you a bad person no more than owning a race car makes you a Daytona 500 winner. The swinging of the arm drives the nail, not the hammer.

I rarely speak of politics, however, the movement of our government and the people cause me to pause and wonder what our founding fathers would think of the direction we have taken. They fought and gave their lives for the foundation of Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness. Have we strayed as a country?

Yes, I am a gun owner. I am a hammer owner. I am a knife owner. I am a truck owner. Each of these things can kill another human, but only through my actions and not without.

I hope and pray that I will never have to point a gun at a person. But I am willing in order to protect myself, family and country.

I am a gun owner.
