GET TO OVERLAND EXPO EAST

As a teenager, we used to take our four-wheel drive trucks and Jeeps up into the mountains to camp, fish, hunt and explore. Little did we know that what we were doing had a name – Overlanding.

Ever thought about, ok, dreamed, of taking six months off from work to go explore some far off country in a Jeep or Land Rover? Or maybe you secretly always wanted to jump on the bike and ride across the country? These guys have done it and wrote the book.

Yes, these crazy ideas that float around in your head are shared by many other like-minded people and some of them have actually done it. Want to learn more ? Then the Overland Expo in Asheville, North Carolina held October 2, 2015 through October 4, 2015 is your chance.

The Overland Expo East is an event for the person who wants to learn more about becoming a do-it-yourself adventure traveler. There will be hundreds of session-hours of classes for 4-wheel-drive and adventure motorcycling, inspirational programs, the Overland Film Festival, roundtable discussions, demonstrations, food, and a large expo featuring over 150 vendors of adventure travel equipment, camping gear, bikes, vehicles, and services.

This year hosts BF Goodrich tires and Four Wheel Campers, along with title sponsors REV’IT, Land Rover, RawHyde Adventures, and BMW motorcycles, support an array of activities ranging from a custom instructional driving course built and staffed by the world-famous Land Rover driver team and an “Adventure Motorcycle Village” with a teaching arena and riding course.

Highlights of Overland Expo East include:

• Beautiful private venue at Taylor Ranch, with mist-covered lakes in the mornings, boat demos in the afternoons.

• The start of fall colors and cool temperatures.

• New tire teaching area hosted by BFGoodrich with a purpose-built tire terrain track.

• Our most dynamic and centrally located Camel Trophy Skills area yet.Landrover

• A long and challenging driving course, and an epic mud recovery area.

Exhibitors include Four Wheel Campers, BFGoodrich Tires, Rev’It, Land Rover of Asheville, Sportsmobile, ARB-USA, Global Xpedition Vehicles, U-Joint Off-Road, American Expedition Vehicles, Equipt Expedition Outfitters, AT Overland, Southeast Overland, Blue Ridge Overland Gear, Overland Journal, as well as BMW, KTM, Triumph, Kawasaki, Honda, and Ural dealers—100+ other makers of equipment, camping gear, vehicles, as well as providers of services and travel resources and authors and filmmakers.

Besides the exhibitors, there are 140 classes and programs scheduled covering everything from great overlanding adventure stories from around the world to knot tying classes. One of the things I’m looking forward to is the Camel Trophy Skills instructions where they demonstrate how to right up a vehicle that has rolled. Not that I plan to roll my truck anytime soon, but you never know what might happen on the next adventure.

Another exhibitor there I’m interested in meeting up with is the Folding Boat Co. We’ve exchanged E-mails and they’ve got a new fold up kayak that I can’t wait to see in person.

I’m really looking forward to my trek down to Asheville, North Carolina and the Taylor Ranch on October 2-4 2015 to learn some skills for my next adventure, get some ideas for the Tacoma build and just hang out with other overlanders listening to their tall tales of world travel.

If that travel lust lies deep in your soul waiting to come out, this is the place to be to let the inner explorer in you out.

See you there.
