Memorial Day Thoughts

This weekend we celebrate the beginning of summer. Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer. I urge everyone to stop and say a prayer with family and friends at the picnic table giving thanks for those Americans that have given of themselves making this weekend possible.

Just as they have done for over a hundred of years in our small Carroll County, MD town, the church bells ring faith and freedom on the hour.

I am free to openly drive across the country as I wish.

I am free to openly disagree with my neighbor.

I am free to openly disagree with my Government.

I am free to remove those in government office I disagree with and elect a new governing body.

I am free to pursue those things that make me happy.

I am free to choose my own life path.

I am free to publicly protest against those things I see unjust.

Do I agree completely agree with the direction of our country at this time? No.

Do I question the increasing number of laws limiting our freedoms? Yes.

Is there anywhere else I would rather live? No.

Our country was founded by a band of rebels who violently fought for their beliefs.

I have heard the 21 gun salute over my father’s grave.

I have worn the uniform.

Let us honor all those who have stood up for these rights.

In their honor we celebrate.

Let us not forget the foundation of our freedoms and return to them.
