Becoming a Photographer with a Twist

Posted by on March 18, 2014

Photographs with Quotes

One of my favorite stories to tell about me becoming a photographer is how I shot my first magazine spread without even knowing how to use the F-stop or shutter speed.  The camera was placed on auto and I shot 35 rolls of 36  exposure slide film and hoped for the best. I’ve learned a little since then, but still consider myself a writer who takes photographs.

To follow the theme of late, our travels through life often take us down a path we never intended or saw coming.  When I started this website, as a after thought,  I added a page with photographs for sale.  There are no new trucks or boats sitting in my driveway from the sales.  But here lately, I’ve seen an increase of sales in an interesting way.

The photographs where I place a quote, often my own, or a bible verse have increased in sales.  What I find interesting with this little twist, is that for years, I have felt a calling to prepare these types of photos but have felt self-conscious about doing them.  I worried the photos where not good enough.  I worried the quotes where too cliche’.  I worried nobody would like them.

I guess I’ve learned a few things about trusting in yourself, and doing what you like and putting it out there for others to see.  Sure I’ll never please everyone.  Sure some people will not like them for one reason or another.  But heck, I like them and I hope a few others may as well.
