Pictures Of My First Visit to Arlington National Cemetery
The power of this place was so overwhelming tears welled up from deep within. The white stone markers filled the landscape as far as the eyes could see. On a Friday afternoon, I visited, for the first time, what I now believe to be one of the most awe-inspiring places in our country. Arlington Cemetery is a must visit for all who pass within the limits of Washington DC. Every American owes a visit to Arlington Cemetery expressing thanks and respect for all those who gave their lives so we may live ours in a country of so much.
Arlington National Cemetery is the final resting place for more than 400,000 active duty service members, veterans and their families. The cemetery conducts between 27 and 30 funerals each week day and between six and eight services on Saturdays.
Respect to those who served, sorrow for family members of those who gave all, pride to be a part of those who served, and American pride, are just a few of the mix of feelings felt walking among the sea of stone grave markers. So much history abounds the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery that I cannot begin to fully explain the sensation one gets while on the grounds.
Instead I will share a few photographs from my visit.
